On October 18, 2017, in Sarajevo, at the invitation of Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, the Mayor of the municipality of Jezero, Snežana Ružičić, attended the meeting called “Local Government Initiative”. The meeting was organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the USAID and the Swiss Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the Local Government Initiative was launched, which represents communication and advisory bodies between the local authorities of both Entities and other actors in Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to identify common challenges in the operation of local authorities that interfere with the efficient provision of services to citizens.
In order to identify the problems and the aspirations to be solved, the Local Government Initiative will form a commission that will visit all local communities throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, and ask local authorities to present their main problems in the field of health, public order and security, municipal services and local economic development.
One of the topics of the meeting was also preparation for EU accession funds and financial empowerment of local communities.
