The crater on the planet Mars was named after the municipality of Jezero, as evidenced by a letter from NASA, which was delivered to the municipality in September 2019, by the US Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Eric Nelson.
As part of the MARS 2020 mission, conducted by NASA, on July 30, 2020, a rocket with the rover "Persistence" was launched to Mars, which was followed by a live broadcast in front of the Jezero municipality building. The rover will land in Jezero Crater on Mars, and the goal of the mission is to collect samples and evidence of life on the said crater.
