Serbian Orthodox Parish of Jezero and the municipality of Jezero for the third time celebrate this holiday through a liturgy, act of Sanctification of Water and swimming for Holy Cross. Epiphany is Christian holiday and the tradition of swimming for Holy Cross represents a sign of remembering Christ’s baptism in the Jordan river and God’s appearance in a form of a dove with a message: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased”.
This year, 10 swimmers from Mrkonjić Grad and Jezero were swimming for Holy Cross, made by Rajko Malinović, and the first among equal was Srđan Udovčić.
“I am very happy to be the first one who swam to the Holy Cross. All the participants were amazing and only a moment decided the winner. This is the third time that I am swimming in Jezero, and three years ago, when the first swimming was organized, I won the Holy Cross. I hope this is going to become a tradition and that I will be able to swim for a Holy Cross in Jezero for many more years,” Udovčić said.
