The Mayor of Jezero Municipality signed the Agreement on cooperation between seen women mayors from both entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina

During October 28 and 29, the Mayor of Jezero Municipality, Snežana Ružičić, attended 37th Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. Besides of the Mayor of Jezero Municipality, the Congress was attended by other six female mayors from both entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, that is: the Mayor of Mrkonjić Grad Municipality, the Mayor of Visoko city, the Mayor of Kalinovik Municipality, the Mayor of Drvar Municipality, the Mayor of Istočni Drvar Municipality and the Mayor of Novo Goražde Municipality.

The role of the Congress is to promote loal and regional democracies, improvement of management on local and regional level and empowering local authorities. Topics of the 37th Congress refers to smart cities and cybernetic safety, working conditions of chosen local representatives, fair distribution of taxes, use of language by local and regional authorities and protection of internally displaced persons, as well as regional dimension in the future of Europe and The Venice Principles for the Protection and Promotion of the Institution of the Ombudsman.

As a side event of the Congress, on October 29, seven Women Mayors from Bosnia and Herzegovina (five from The Republic of Srpska and two from The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina) signed "The Agreement on Intermunicipal Cooperation of Women Mayors in Bosnia and Herzegovina". The initiative for the Agreement was launched in the municipality of Jezero, in January this year, during a meeting of six mayors from both entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The goal of the Agreement is to affirm women who want to be involved in politics through the example of supporting current mayors.

In her address to the audience, the Mayor of Jezero, Ms. Ružičić, pointed out that the Agreement will help the political and economic empowerment of women and that this example will show that women together can create better and greater opportunities for their community. She also asked members of Congress to support the education of women in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the embassies of their countries.
