Floods in Jezero Municipality, May 2019

Due to heavy rainfall, announced by the Hydro-Meteorological Institute of Republika Srpska, in the period from May 12, 2019, until May 15, 2019, there was a sharp rise in water levels and the rise of the rivers Pliva, Jošavka and Perućica and floods in Jezero Municipality. 

On May 13, 2019, part of 21 November Street and the regional road R415 were closed to traffic, while traffic on the main road M5 took place in one lane. According to an unofficial estimate, the households of about twenty families were flooded.

On May 14, the Emergency Situations Headquarters of the Jezero Municipality visited households and the field and offered help to the population endangered by the floods. The level of the river Pliva that day was 1m higher than the regular water level.

At the joint proposal of the school director, the commander of the Jezero Police Station and the mayor of Jezero, and due to the general safety of the students, classes at the "Vuk Karadžić" Elementary School did not take place on May 15, 2019. In the village of Prisoje, two landslides were activated and thus additionally endangered individual households, while both existing roads to the village of Ljoljići were closed to passenger vehicles.

On May 15, 2019, representatives of the Water Polo Club "Borac" visited the municipality of Jezero to provide support and assistance to the flooded residents with hygiene packages and drinking water. On the same day, the rain stopped which caused a slight withdrawal of water into the riverbeds. However, some properties still remained under water, and sludge remediation and epidemiological activities has started.
